Tourmaline

Also known as schorl. Tourmaline is a diverse group of minerals known for their wide range of colours and unique properties. Commonly found in various geological settings, tourmalines can appear in shades of green, pink, blue, black, and more. These minerals are prized in jewellery and as collector's items for their vibrant colours and exceptional clarity.

It was first named in 1400 A.D. by a small village in Saxony, Germany after their village's original name, Schorl. Tourmalines have been used and traded since ancient times, yet became a very popular fashion stone about 150 years ago. In 1876, George Kunz sold a green tourmaline to what is now known as Tiffany and Co.

Metaphysically, black tourmaline is one of the most well-known protective stones. It is believed to absorb and transmute negative energies, shielding the user from harm. It is associated with grounding and connecting to the Earth, helping to promote a sense of stability and security. It is often used in crystal healing by those struggling with anxiety, anger, and unwanted thoughts.
