Chrysoprase, also known as australian jade, is a green variety of Chalcedony, a type of microcrystalline quartz, known for its bright apple-green colour. It is a semi-precious gemstone used in jewellery and ornamental carvings. Cryptocrystalline means chrysoprase is made up of a large amount of tiny crystals too small for the human eye to even see!

First discovered in 1844 by J.D. Dana who named it for the Greek words meaning “gold” and “green”.

In ancient times, Chrysoprase was often referred to as “the Stone of Venus”. It was commonly worn as jewellery or used as a carving and sculpting material due to its raw beauty. It is been said that chrysoprase was Alexander the Great’s favorite gemstone!

Metaphysically, chrysoprase brings good fortune and prosperity. It is associated with self expression, courage and fluent speech.
